Believe it or not Donald Trump owns the trademark for Central Park. However, the lawyers indicate that the name is owned by every New Yorker.
It all started with the fact that Trump trademarked Manhattan’s iconic park back in 1991, and most surprisingly, no one objected. Neither the city, nor the Central Park Conservancy. Now however there are valid reasons.
"This is an unpleasant situation," says trademark litigation specialist Jason Drangel. "Anyone can register a trademark, but that does not mean that together with the registration you acquire the right to the trademark."
But authorities are much stricter in their judgment: "No one can have ownership rights to the words" Central Park ". This is a public place, logo of which is belong to the city, "- said deputy press secretary. "When people and companies are trying to encroach on the city-owned trademarks, we will take appropriate legal action".
